Compare a new Cyprus solar quotation in 2026 by its connection terms, complete installation scope and energy-value assumptions before comparing the total. Two offers with the same panel capacity can describe different electrical work, different export treatment and different claims about savings. An older household's agreement is not a substitute for confirmation of the route available to a new application.
Fix the application category first
EAC's current public information says the former own-consumption scheme expired on 31/12/2025. Its older net-metering agreements are limited to customers whose connection applications met the stated 31/12/2025 deadline.
That distinction should appear near the beginning of the quotation discussion. If an earlier application exists, provide its reference and ask the responsible parties to establish its status. If this is a new application, request the current connection and supply conditions.
Do not accept a financial model built on an unspecified arrangement. A heading saying net metering, solar savings or bill reduction does not establish the terms that will apply to the client's property.
Put both quotations on the same scope
Create a baseline brief describing the roof, supply arrangement, household use and required functions. Send the same information to each installer. Where an inspection is needed, identify which parts of the price remain provisional until it is completed.
Compare array capacity and inverter capacity as separate entries. Ask whether storage is included, which battery model is offered and whether backup is part of the installation. Generation, storage and outage support are different functions.
The quotation should also identify mounting, roof interfaces, electrical upgrades, application work, commissioning and monitoring access. A supply-only equipment total should not be compared directly with an installed and connected system.
Expose exclusions before calculating value
Ask each provider to explain items described as by others, subject to survey or provisional. Those terms are not inherently a problem, but they change the price basis.
A roof repair, access equipment or a necessary electrical change can materially alter the complete project. Ask which party assesses the requirement and obtains approval before work is added.
Keep grant assumptions separate until the relevant authority has confirmed eligibility and the applicable conditions. This guide gives no grant amount, export tariff or Cyprus installer-price benchmark.
Separate production from useful consumption
Generation is the electricity the array produces. Direct self-consumption is the portion used by the household at the relevant time. Export is the portion sent out under the applicable arrangement. An annual bill total does not establish how these quantities coincide.
An illustrative period makes the distinction visible: assume generation of 10 kWh, direct household use of 6 kWh and export of 4 kWh. Direct self-consumption is 60%. These are invented quantities for explaining the calculation, not measured output from a Cyprus home.
If a supplier values all 10 kWh as avoided purchases, ask it to explain why that is appropriate under the actual arrangement. The exported portion may have a different treatment, and the confirmed terms need to be reflected in the model.
Use a transparent value formula
For a defined period, a simplified energy-value model is:
Directly used generation multiplied by the applicable avoided-import value, plus exports multiplied by their applicable value, less the costs included in the model.
Every term needs a basis. Specify whether the import value represents only the avoidable energy component or includes other charges that actually change. State how export value is established. If a value is unconfirmed, show a scenario rather than disguising the uncertainty.
A battery adds another modelling step. Charging, discharge, losses and reserve settings must be represented. Do not assume that every kilowatt-hour stored becomes an identical saving or that adding storage removes every export constraint.
Compare simple payback without mistaking it for a forecast
Consider a purely hypothetical investment of €6,000 with an annual net saving of €750. Dividing cost by saving produces a simple payback of eight years. If the same assumed investment saves €500 annually, the result becomes 12 years.
These figures are not market prices, tariffs or a prediction for any property. They show how strongly the result depends on the net-saving input.
Ask what is included in net saving. Maintenance, later replacements and financing should not vanish because the quotation displays one prominent payback number. Simple payback also omits the timing and changing value of cash flows unless a more detailed method addresses them.
Use the household's expected period of ownership and operational needs alongside the calculation. This article is a comparison method, not individual investment advice.
Compare quotations in a reconciliation table
| Item | Offer A | Offer B | Question to resolve |
|---|---|---|---|
| Application route | Record the stated route | Record the stated route | Are both applicable to this property? |
| Equipment | Exact models and capacities | Exact models and capacities | Is the functional scope equivalent? |
| Building and electrical work | Included or excluded | Included or excluded | What completes the project? |
| Direct self-consumption | Model basis | Model basis | Does timing reflect household use? |
| Export treatment | Confirmed or assumed | Confirmed or assumed | What value and constraints apply? |
| Ongoing costs | Stated assumptions | Stated assumptions | What is omitted from savings? |
The table should record actual quotations received. It is not a league table of installers. A blank or unclear cell is a question to resolve, not evidence that a provider is unsuitable.
Ask for sensitivity, not a second sales slogan
Request a scenario with less daytime use or changed occupancy. Ask how a lower export value, equipment downtime or an additional maintenance cost affects the result.
Keep the underlying energy and commercial assumptions consistent between offers. Comparing a conservative household-use estimate with an optimistic one can make a price difference appear less important than it really is.
A usable supplier response explains its method and identifies unresolved conditions. Numerical precision does not compensate for uncertain inputs.
Keep the final agreed basis
After choosing an offer, retain the accepted equipment schedule, scope, exclusions and confirmed connection assumptions. Record later changes rather than treating the earliest sales estimate as the completed project.
At handover, obtain the relevant commissioning information and monitoring access. Those records allow future operating data to be compared with the original model without confusing forecast generation with observed performance.
Common questions
Is price per installed kilowatt enough to choose?
It summarises one part of the offer. Roof work, electrical scope, equipment functions and connection assumptions can differ. Reconcile those before relying on a unit figure.
Can a neighbour's net-metering example establish my savings?
It describes that neighbour's arrangement. Confirm the purchaser's own application status and terms before using any example as a model.
Does a larger array necessarily produce a shorter payback?
Additional generation can arrive when the home cannot use it directly. Its value depends on timing, system constraints and the actual commercial treatment.
Why do two installers show different savings for similar equipment?
Check generation inputs, direct-use assumptions, export treatment and excluded costs. Those can explain the difference without either calculation being a measured result.
