Start with the trip rather than unlimited data
A small business choosing mobile service for travelling staff needs to compare the allowance available abroad, not simply the largest domestic data headline. Describe the destinations, trip lengths, expected tasks and number of travelling lines first. Someone sending messages during a short visit has a different requirement from someone using a laptop hotspot for repeated video meetings. The contract should be assessed against those activities.
Create one brief for every supplier. Include the travel month, expected roaming data per line, whether tethering is required and who administers the account. Ask for the included allowance, exclusions, additional charges and controls in an itemised response. Keep an unconfirmed term visible as a question. It should not become an assumed inclusion simply because the domestic plan sounds generous.
Separate roaming from calling abroad
Your Europe describes roaming as using a mobile subscription while occasionally travelling outside the country where the subscriber lives, works, studies or has stable links. Its guidance explains domestic-rate treatment for relevant calls, messages and data when travelling in another EU country. That is a different purchasing question from making an international call while remaining in Cyprus. See the EU's roaming guidance.
Ask suppliers to label the two services separately in the offer. Also obtain the exact destination and network coverage for the proposed tariff rather than assuming that a geographical description settles every case. A business with several travel destinations should receive a response for each one. Include any transit connectivity you expect to use, so an ordinary mobile-network allowance is not mistaken for confirmation of every connection encountered during the journey.
Read the data limit separately from the domestic bundle
EU guidance explains that an unlimited domestic data package can have a roaming data limit, and that some low-cost limited bundles can also be subject to a fair-use data limit. The operator must communicate the applicable allowance. Therefore, unlimited in Cyprus does not by itself answer how much data a traveller can use at the included rate abroad. Ask for the allowance applicable to the specific plan and billing period.
Cyta's own roaming FAQ illustrates the distinction: it describes roaming data caps for named unlimited and mobile-broadband services, together with usage notifications at 80% and 100%. These are Cyta's published arrangements, not conditions shared by every Cyprus operator. Read the operator's FAQ, then obtain confirmation for the business tariff actually quoted. Do not transfer a consumer-plan allowance to a company account without checking.
Keep long-term fair use on a different comparison row
There are two separate questions: how much data is included during a billing period, and whether the pattern of using the subscription abroad remains occasional. Your Europe explains that an operator can examine presence and usage over four months. If both foreign presence and roaming use exceed their domestic equivalents, it may request clarification, with fourteen days to respond. That is not a universal four-month travel allowance or an automatic surcharge on every long trip.
For repeated assignments, give the supplier the expected pattern before signing. A larger monthly data allowance does not necessarily resolve a sustained overseas-use issue. Ask what evidence or arrangement is appropriate for the proposed use and who receives any warning. Keep the answer with the account record. A business should not base an extended posting on an employee's recollection that roaming was included on a previous holiday.
Compare two fictional offers using identical demand
Consider two invented offers for one employee travelling within the quoted included zone. Offer A provides 20 GB of included roaming data per billing period; Offer B provides 35 GB. Assume the employee needs 28 GB during that period and both offers otherwise permit the intended use. These quantities are fictional purchasing inputs, not current Cyprus packages, advertised allowances or regulatory minimums.
On those assumptions, A leaves 8 GB to be addressed through an approved add-on, reduced usage or chargeable consumption. B has 7 GB remaining. That arithmetic does not prove B is cheaper: the subscription fees, add-on terms, tax treatment and other requirements are deliberately unspecified. Ask both suppliers to price the same 28 GB scenario, with any additional purchase identified explicitly. If the trip crosses a billing reset, request a second calculation using the actual dates.
Compare controls as well as the expected bill
A useful offer explains what happens when usage reaches its allowance. Ask whether data stops, continues with charges or requires an add-on, and distinguish allowance notifications from spending controls. Confirm who receives messages, whether an account administrator can see usage and whether the traveller can authorise an increase. Cyta's described percentage notifications demonstrate one operator's alert mechanism; they do not establish an organisation's internal approval process.
Write that approval process into the business brief. For example, an employee can report an approaching limit while a named manager decides whether to buy more data. This is a proposed purchasing arrangement, not a mobile-network rule. Test whether the supplier's account tools can support it. If the warning reaches only an unattended device, the control may be poorly matched to the way the business manages travel.
Normalise the commitment beyond the travel month
Compare the full period you expect to keep the service. Separate recurring subscription charges, one-time setup, roaming add-ons, device repayments and termination or change terms. A package selected for one demanding trip may remain on the account long after that trip ends. Ask whether an optional travel arrangement can be removed and when the change takes effect. Do not calculate annual savings using a temporary allowance or an unspecified renewal price.
The same purchasing discipline appears in our company setup and bookkeeping comparison: define equivalent responsibilities and compare initial and recurring commitments separately. Apply that method here without importing its supplier recommendations or prices. For multiple mobile lines, ask whether each allowance is individual or pooled, and which traveller's usage can trigger an additional cost. A fleet total can conceal a shortfall on one heavily used line.
Request a dated offer with clear exclusions
Send the final brief directly to the mobile suppliers and request a dated written response. It should name the tariff, included destinations, roaming allowance, reset date, additional-usage treatment and account controls. Identify the person who approves a change. Ask the supplier to flag assumptions that would make its calculation invalid, such as a different destination or a much longer overseas assignment.
Use the principle behind Comparison.cy's published cost comparisons: a figure needs a stated scope and a source that can be checked. The site currently centres on project and service comparisons; this article does not claim access to a live telecom tariff database or a mobile-provider matching service. The next step is an itemised mobile offer against your travel brief. Compare included costs and unresolved conditions together, then choose the arrangement that fits the business's actual travel pattern.
Frequently asked questions
Does unlimited domestic data mean unlimited EU roaming data?
No. A roaming fair-use data allowance can apply. Obtain the allowance for the exact tariff being offered.
Is the four-month check the same as a monthly data cap?
No. It concerns the pattern of presence and usage abroad. A billing-period data allowance is a separate condition.
Does calling another country from Cyprus count as roaming?
Roaming concerns using the subscription while abroad. Ask for international calls from Cyprus to be priced separately.
Are the 20 GB and 35 GB offers real Cyprus tariffs?
No. They are fictional inputs used to demonstrate a like-for-like calculation, with no claimed price or saving.
